Conflict Prevention & Mitigation

This thematic area focuses on strengthening cross-border coordination mechanisms, conflict prevention systems, and early warning structures across the IGAD borderlands. PRBP works with regional institutions, local authorities, peace committees, technical experts, and community structures to reinforce collaboration, improve information sharing, and support coordinated responses to conflict and disaster risks.

The programme promotes inclusive peacebuilding processes while strengthening institutional systems for mediation, reconciliation, climate early warning, and transboundary animal disease surveillance.

The economic recovery pillar focuses on shared natural resource management, recognizing that water, pasture, and grazing lands do not respect political boundaries.
Through improved governance of these resources, promotion of livestock marketing and cross-border trade, and building climate-resilient livelihoods, the programme addresses the environmental and economic challenges that borderland communities face.
